Dauphine Proto R1090 (Adey)

I thought i would give a quick overview of my low and slow Dauphine. full thread here https://turborenault.co.uk/threads/the-1957-dope-Dauphine.40186/. Its not liked too much by the purists but shes mine. I bought her 4 years ago and registered her in the UK. I sold her due to being ill but bought her back 5/6months ago and carried on the work. She is registered as a late 1957 car and has a 3 speed and 845cc engine. the first pictures are when i first had her.

Elle n'est pas trop appréciée des puristes mais elle est à moi. Je l'ai acheté il y a 4 ans et je l'ai fait immatriculer au Royaume-Uni.

Je l'ai vendue parce qu'elle était malade, mais je l'ai rachetée il y a 5/6 mois et j'ai continué le travail.

Elle est immatriculée comme une voiture de fin 1957 et a un moteur à 3 vitesses et 845 cm³.

Les premières photos sont celles de la première fois où je l'ai eue.

How she looks now, all the electrics are sorted and after rebuilding the top end of the 845cc engine she ran really well. I then removed the engine and gearbox as i am trying to fit a bigger one.

A présent, tout le matériel électrique est trié et après avoir reconstruit le haut du moteur de 845 cm³, elle a très bien fonctionné. J'ai ensuite démonté le moteur et la boîte de vitesses, car j'essaie d'en monter un plus gros.

So now i am trying to mount a 330-00 4 speed gearbox and bigger engine. The engine is a 1108cc, i removed the 7 bolt crank and fitted a 5 bolt crank in its place with the 956 flat flywheel along with a 956cc head. i am now waiting on the postman for a few more parts and i can start trying to fit it all back in.

J'essaie donc maintenant de monter une boîte de vitesses 330-00 à 4 rapports et un moteur plus puissant. Le moteur est un 1108cc, j'ai enlevé la manivelle à 7 boulons et j'ai monté une manivelle à 5 boulons à sa place avec le volant plat 956 ainsi qu'une tête de 956cc. J'attends maintenant le facteur pour quelques pièces supplémentaires et je peux commencer à essayer de remonter le tout.





cheers, there arnt many over here and the ones that are look very factory new. Mines a little worn out looking but i love the patina
330 gearbox and axle was put back in place this morning, side gearbox mounts have been made using rover V8 engine mounts.

Il n'y en a pas beaucoup par ici et ceux qui ont l'air très neufs. Les mines ont l'air un peu usées mais j'aime la patine

La boîte de vitesses et l'essieu 330 ont été remis en place ce matin, les supports latéraux de la boîte de vitesses ont été réalisés à l'aide de supports de moteur V8 de rover.

Thanks everyone ?? got the engine in this morning. Now the 6v starter doesn't fit, I didn't want to change to 12v if i could help it. 

Merci à tous, j'ai obtenu le moteur ce matin. Maintenant, le démarreur 6v ne convient pas, je ne voulais pas passer au 12v si je pouvais l'aider.

take the nose of the 12V and adapt it to the 6V starter.

But beware, can the 6V starter support the compression ratio of 1108cm3?

Hi all, so we have got alot further. I built a 12v nose on a 6v starter. my first was a very old item so i had to source the correct 6v armature to use. Engine is in and mounted properly on new mounts. I fitted some new points, a new condenser and 6v coil. Unfortunately the original radiator sprang a leak so i am replacing its with a bigger item and fitting a header tank to run the cooling system like an R5. I think the starter is old still and struggling with the higher compression engine but it works and starts up. 


Hopefully i will finish it off and drive her next week sometime.

So I've had a busy few days. I got most of the conversion done and went to test drive the car only to find the friction plate wasn't moving up and down the gearbox input shaft. So i had to remove the engine, clean the shaft and then reinstall everything. I've fitted a new bigger radiator too. I gave it a quick test drive and its surprisingly fast compared to the old 845cc engine and the 4 speed gearbox is lovely and close rather than the old really wide 3 speed. Im happy now. Still lots to do and sort out, temperature gauge, radiator fan and wiring and then give it some proper road tests. Thanks for reading.

J'ai donc eu quelques jours occupés. J'ai effectué la majeure partie de la conversion et suis allé tester la voiture pour découvrir que la plaque de friction ne se déplaçait pas de haut en bas sur l'arbre d'entrée de la boîte de vitesses. J'ai donc dû retirer le moteur, nettoyer l'arbre, puis tout réinstaller. J'ai également installé un nouveau radiateur plus gros. Je lui ai fait un essai rapide et c'est étonnamment rapide par rapport à l'ancien moteur 845 cm³ et la boîte de vitesses à 4 vitesses est belle et proche plutôt que l'ancienne 3 vitesses vraiment large. Je suis heureux maintenant. Il reste encore beaucoup à faire et à trier, la jauge de température, le ventilateur du radiateur et le câblage, puis lui donner des tests routiers appropriés. So we have come along way with this over the last few weeks. The original cooling setup that i made didn't work well at all and the car overheated and boiled over. It turned out that the new radiator i had was of very poor quality and the 6v electric fan was very weak and couldn't cool it very well. Ive ended up fitting a better radiator from a company called calsonic and decent curved blade fan. Ive also used aluminium to shroud the radiator and changed the plumbing a little. To make sur the fan could run well i swapped out the 6v Dynamo for a 12v internally regulated alternator. The dash is still 6v and i fitted a voltage adapter to it and the rest of the car is now 12v. LED front sidelights and normal bulbs elsewhere until i can find LED replacements. So far she runs and drives very well now and more importantly seems to hold temperature very well at around 80c.

So i have been using the Dope as much as i can do recently, i love it. I also borrowed some wide steel wheels off a friends R8 to see what size would fit on my car. These are 15x6 so i will probably get mine made the same width. I also put my car on a Dyno to make sur it was running well. Apart from being a little lean and the vacuum advance not working it did well making a near standard 41bhp









I also need a speedo câble, i have the Dauphine dash clocks and a 330-00 gearbox, does anyone know the type of drive i need? the Dauphine câble doesn't seem to engage in the box correctly?

Managed to modify the original speedo câble to fit the R8 gearbox and it seems to work well. Also being using it as much as i could. Voir la pièce jointe 35380Voir la pièce jointe 35381

Seems like you really know what you are doing. Congratulations on your work so far. I wish I had even a small part of your know-how. I'm still stuck trying to remove a knackered brake master cylinder from my R8. Bonne route !

J'ai donc changé un peu le look pour l'hiver au moins. J'ai également ajouté un chauffage diesel sous le capot et cela fonctionne très bien, 25 degrés de chaleur à l'intérieur en moins de 10 minutes. J'espère que tu aimes

Magnifique elle est trop belle cette Dauphine dans son jus 

Oui elle est sweety, mais personnellement je la préférerais rutilante avec une belle peinture bleue lavande qui claque . Je ne vois pas bien l'intérêt des ratrods encore une mode qui nous vient des US déclinantes mais bon chacun ses goûts.
